HISTORY
The history of BALIMA begins in 1928, when three friends, Lucien Bardy, André Liorel, and Louis Mathias, decided to establish a real estate company which they named BALIMA, formed from the first syllable of each of their surnames: BA (Bardy), LI (Liorel), and MA (Mathias).
The new company quickly made a name for itself in the Moroccan real estate transactions and building construction market. Within a few years, it became indispensable.
In 1932, the famous BALIMA Hotel, a jewel on Mohammed V Avenue, was inaugurated opposite the current Parliament building. Interestingly, it was Mr. André Liorel who constructed the courthouse in Rabat, which was inaugurated the same year and later became the Parliament of the Kingdom in the 1970s.
The hotel enjoyed great success and quickly became a meeting place for Moroccan high society and international visitors of that time.
Over time, the BALIMA Hotel hosted statesmen, writers, diplomats, parliamentarians, journalists, and globally renowned artists. Among others, notable figures who visited included Mohammed Khaïr-Eddine, Che Guevara, Bonnie Scott, Charles Trenet, and Joséphine Baker…
In the late 1940s, BALIMA went public thanks to the visionary leadership of its president and co-founder, Louis Mathias. His daughter, Jacqueline, took over the presidency and general management of BALIMA in the early 1980s. Today, she is assisted by her sons, to whom she has passed down her passion for real estate and respect for Rabat’s architectural heritage.
Drawing strength from this heritage and its history, BALIMA renews its real estate mission by maintaining its buildings, renovating its apartments, and redirecting those with the most character towards seasonal rentals.
